Weekend Warrior May 2, 2008

This weekend for Weekend Warrior my project is pretty simple. We are going out of town on vacation (destination to be shared later), so I am getting us ready to go. Here’s the list…

• Get all the laundry clean and folded tomorrow I will wash our bed linens and towels before church
  
• Pack the clothes only Phil and Caleb are left
• Put away any clothes we are leaving here almost done!
• Load up the food we are bringing with us only the cold stuff that goes in the cooler is left!
• Plan and pack some entertainment for our journey (we have a long drive)
• Prep our maps and other paperwork so it is neatly organized
• Most importantly, put my receipts into our computer checkbook program

Whew! That’s a lot…but there’s more…I have to get this done in between 1 baseball game, 1 ballet performance, church , a piano recital, our church’s annual meeting, and a sweet little crawler who likes to cuddle. So here’s to coffee, a helpful husband, and obedient kids! I’ll let you know how it goes.

We’re almost on our way…I’ll try to post an update from our trip!

Weekend Warrior (progress report inside!) April 25, 2008

This weekend my Weekend Warrior project is to get my garden well underway. Actually, I already started today since our weekend around here is Friday & Saturday. For several years I have wanted to have a vegetable garden, but it didn’t work out for a variety of logistical reasons, so this year is the year.

I have been reading the book Square Foot Gardening, and am attempting to implement this method. My sweet honey built me three boxes, and today we filled them with “Mel’s Mix.” Tomorrow morning I am going to plant the transplants I have, and on Monday I will be putting in the seeds. I took some pictures along the way, and will take some tomorrow, too. Then I will hopefully figure out how to post them.

We followed the directions in Square Foot Gardening to make our soil mixture. The directions were good, and it was certainly an easier process than digging into the ground for hours on end, but it still made my back sore.

I took this picture to show the soil in the long box, but it’s a little hard to see. We decided to make one long box because we have this retaining wall along the edge of our side yard that is just right for gardening, so we modified the square into a rectangle to make the plan work for us. We’ll see how it all works out.

Weekend Warrior April 11, 2008

Well, it’s the weekend around here, since Phil works Sunday through Thursday. In the spirit of Weekend Warriors, I’ve got some plans around here. This is an ambitious list, so we shall see how it goes. However, the accountability of posting some plans here will help motivate me. Here is the plan:

Morning – edited at 4 pm. That pantry was a WAY bigger job than I previously realized!

• clean the kitchen
• run the dishwasher
• cook up some baby food (apples, pears, plums, butternut squash)
• tidy the pantry (this is the largest project in the kitchen)
• run Caitey’s laundry through the wash
• pull 6 m and smaller clothes out of Noah’s closet

Afternoon- Edited at 7:30 pm. I ended up emptying some boxes in the garage. Above tasks moved to tomorrow… Edited again at 9:55 Sunday night….got these done today….

• yard work-weeding, prepping for vegetable garden
• lesson planning for next week

Evening

• collapsing onto the couch!
